“Is it possible to write an even semi-serious artist statement/bio and not come across as a complete tool?” An Exploration.

This website is in a state of perpetual, snail-paced rearranging… Like most things in life projects don’t always fit perfectly into one category and that’s if they were documented well enough to begin with. While primarily rooted in painting, the more I create the further I find myself branching beyond any one form. More than anything I try to maintain a daily routine of creativity. On the mildest days maybe that’s just some puttering and doodling, on the wildest… it can get pretty weird.

To keep it simple

I like making things.

To me “Art” is just a way of fulfilling my love for the feeling of figuring out something new. The brief calm that comes after piecing together a chunk of some previous unknown. The satisfaction that comes from capturing a feeling or a moment in an honest way. Finding the “right” mark after making the “wrong” one ten times before. I tend to bounce around through styles, mediums and ideas. Themes vary, I’m a believer artists can make work ranging from humorous to serious, occasionally blurring those lines between and beyond as we see fit. Artists, as a human beings…perhaps… can have… a range of expression? Often my process flows between being heavily prepared and finely tuned to fluid to entirely of the moment.

“From what I’ve gathered an artist bio should pretty much be interchangeable with an introduction you’d give to a therapist…”

I was born and raised in Missoula, Montana and have only begun to somewhat grasp the scope of the world beyond Montana. Forever curious I’ve enjoyed making things from as far back as I can remember. I liked “Art” as a kid and while maybe a bit odd, I wasn’t particularity talented or natural to grasp techniques.

Growing up in “suburbia but with horses” Montana was often kind of boring which is a solid environment to blossom any creative mind. My Mom is a former teacher who values learning of all aspects of life and encouraged my many whims. My Dad is an endless tinkerer who taught me tools, the value of puttering around and making random shit. Plus studies have shown that one out of every two children with a slightly different name for their time must pursue an alternative lifestyle such as that of an artist. (Though it does seem like Parkers have been on the rise in the past 5 or so years…) Regardless, I’ve had several great teachers along the way and am always learning something new.

As opposed to rambling on, this is where I’m going to recommend you reach out to me if you need . Instagram is probably what I keep somewhat up to date, social media’s a real trash pile these days. Email’s usually best way to get in touch.
